Foaming Republicans

_______________________________

Larry Beinhart hits the nail on the head at Common Dreams

His words on immigration are especially well-targeted:

The “immigration” issue is not about immigration.

It’s about Mexicans, those dark foreigners. There are no Minute Men, or Second Men or Hour Men for that matter, out to patrol the frozen wastes from the Straits of San Juan de la Fuca to the St. Lawrence Seaway. There are no foamers screaming for the Navy to get out on Lake Superior and shoot those Canadian canoes out of the water before the illegals reach Minnesota and take up residence in Lake Woebegone.

The reality is that the illegal immigration may be a problem, but it’s not a big problem. Their impact on health care, for example, is utterly trivial compared to our real health care problems. Their impact on wages is irrelevant compared to congress’s refusal to raise the minimum wage. Their impact on jobs is minor compared to the wide variety of ills that affect the American job market; globalization, the growth of corporate power, America’s disinvestment in infrastructure, the weakening of unions and the misplaced economics policies of the government (if you take at face value the claim that they are designed to stimulate the economy and create jobs).

The ideas on the Republican fear of sex are pretty sharp too.

Debates on illegal immigration preempt the more serious discussion of overpopulation.

How to feed 6.5 billion people on a planet that can sustainably support perhaps a billion at best (without reliance on fossil fuels)?

It's a tapdance around the root cause, which serves the billionaire elite by dividing the working class among ethnic, gender, religious, and other differences. In a worst-case scenario of social and government collapse, the billionaires will still enjoy their private islands in the Caymans, Virgins, and Carribean, content in the knowledge that working class peoples will take care of overpopulation by killing each other off over fueled by the bigotry and hatred manufactured today. Plus it's a hotbutton election issue which diverts attention from the crimes of our government.

and will soon be so severely damaged by human actions, that it can sustain even less...

Widening tropics 'will drive deserts into Europe'
"It shows that the areas just outside the tropics, at around 30 degrees north and south - running through China, North India, the Middle East, North Africa, Florida and the US Gulf Coast, and through Australia, Southern Africa and Argentina - are warming particularly fast...
The scientists believe that this may explain the recent droughts in southern Europe and the south-western United States. They say that if the process continues it could move the deserts into heavily populated areas, with devastating results...
here is estimated to be a one in three chance that New Orleans will be hit again, and insurers as far north as New York are reluctant to provide cover for the storm damage...
On Wednesday Jeb Bush - the Governor of Florida and the brother of the President - met some of the scientists who had conducted the research, saying that he found their information "compelling"."

the catastrophe is here - where you can clearly see it? Insurers accept it - and even Jeb Bush fears to lose Florida, before he is President - despite the best insider-knowledge, that american elections were just a question of dollars, not of democracy. So you see he must fear a REALLY BIG threat to his career...

yes, that's the scenario, i have in mind, citing Nietzsches "last man" - because the billionaires will be the ones surviving longer than anybody else, i guess

but they are not only the last man "the most contemptible thing: that, however, is THE LAST MAN!" - they are also the most incapable of doing anything rational, anything, which needs efforts, work and pain. Nietzsche was perfectly right: "One pays heavily for coming to power: power makes stupid"

and stupidity has a clear price: each species which decides to not pay the price for intelligence has to offer death something: more individuals - that's ok for ants and fishes because as long as the species survives, individual deaths don't matter in case of stupidity: intelligence just "doesn't sell" enough when you have enough children to be sacrificed for your incompetence...

but i fear, that the willing stupidity of the species can't be fully compared to the willing stupidity of individuals - and so in the former case, the individual pays the price, in the latter the species might have to do it...

because there is this divine law, humankind has forgotten: stupidity means death

proven by George W. Bush, master of wrong decisions, sender of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse to poor Iraq, to Husam Harat Khalaf, 6 months

Stupidity, creator of wrong decisions, creator of lethal decisions - Stupidity, Lord of the Riders, master of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse
