Woody Allen

i envy that guy - how much he knows! But i guess, he didn't interpret Kant as i do

"“Order like you are ordering for every human being on earth,” Kant advises" - that's simply the wrong "direction" IMHO (do, not get), but wow, who ever knows that Leibniz (re)invented the monads?

regarding B's post...

denial may easily be more mortal than any malice

reminds me of the Soviet Union - where a serial killer could kill - really bestial kill more than 50 boys. Why? Because "it can't happen here" - the Soviet Union simply denied that possibility of serial killing and imprisoned the usual suspects (you know the poor ones who couldn't defend themselves like gypsies or homeless), such allowing to kill more and more children...

i watched the TV-recording of the trial (after the fall of the SU) - a small unimpressive grey rat of a man without any regret, talking with pleasure, how he watched the boys die, how he enjoyed the fear in their eyes...

this monster was "tolerable" by the Soviets because of "it can't happen here"

or the Kursk - until now i don't know if they could have saved the last survivors if they only would have accepted some help

why does denial work so perfectly? I guess, because it allows others to look away - oh, it's not that important, oh, i don't need to help, oh, don't care - there is no poison. Don't worry, be happy

(from B's post/link)

I’ve done benefits for others all of my life, and it’s come to this. Having to ask for money to SAVE MY OWN LIFE...
So please, give whatever you can. Because the United States Government acts like I don’t exist. And that’s a damn shame. Because I LOVE this country. I love America. For the opportunities it affords to all of us. There is no place better on the planet.
(Writer George Tabb Dying From 9/11 After-Effects)

Emphasis mine because of the bitter irony - words of a dead man without enough support and help inside his beloved country - reminds me of Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz's "the best of all worlds"...

Leibniz didn't know another world...

Again: I see you'd *already" picked up on that reprehensibly partisan maneuver. (I missed your comment till just now, having already published "GOPogrom of the Press".) ==== I feel compelled to ask, if only rhetorically: Could the Nazi-dominated Reichstag of Hitler's era have done much more to totally *obliterate* all semblance of freedom than our own Republikan Congress is now doing? ("Birds of a feather", indeed.) I realize, of course, that -- in terms of sheer numbers and overall severity -- we haven't *quite* attained the odious stature of a full-blown "Third Reich" dictatorship. But these partisan racketeers in our Capitol certainly seem bent on "making up for lost time" with all due haste! And your "It can't happen here!" paradox cited above seems all too real for *this* country. ==== I do NOT engage in mere "hyperbole" -- if anyone ever thought so -- when I suggest that we're rapidly approaching a potentially irreversible Totalitarian state in the US, with some of the critical elements already in place. This isn't about "preserving democracy", it's about RESTORING it -- right now, there's almost nothing left of "America" to "preserve"!

Germany needs more than 20 years for that journey - the first years no one realized what's going on, look at Goebbels: since September 1924 he wrote against liberals and jews, he even "blogged" (really, he published a series of "political diaries") - and most of the educated people just shrugged their shoulders...

reminds me of many bloggers and publishers now, full of hate and repeating the same stupid lies on and on, because - like Goebbels - they simply are losers who couldn't otherwise find a good job, couldn't otherwise find people who listened to them

and (you know it better than i do) even Hitler could not "play" the full-blown dictator in 1933 et. seq., at that time he might easily have said the same as Mr. Bush: "If this were a dictatorship, it would be a heck of a lot easier..." (actually he said something like said: he didn't feel as dictator, he "just simplified democracy")

problem is - even when Germany didn't realize how mighty he had become, the point of no return was reached in times, when all looked still nice and harmless...
