What we're seeing here, in a sense, is the growing -- the birth pangs of a new Middle East and whatever we do we have to be certain that we're pushing forward to the new Middle East not going back to the old one.

Condoleezza Rice
July 21,2006

Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ, and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.

Matthew Chapter 24 Verses 4-8
(New International Version)

They seem to be following the script quite well

Can't say I find fault with the following reaction in the least; my own sentiments are quite similar! And I can't help thinking that, when the "terrorists" seem infinitely more sensible than the supposed leaders of the "civilized" world, reality has clearly been turned completely on its ear! Nevertheless, for me, "That's the fact, Jack." This call by Zawahiri is entirely warranted and righteous under the circumstances: Bin Laden's deputy calls for global war on 'crusaders' [The Guardian, UK] ==== Al-Qaida's deputy leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri, made a dramatic intervention in the Lebanese crisis yesterday with a videotape calling on Muslims everywhere to rise up against Zionists and "crusaders". ==== "How can we remain silent while watching bombs raining on our people?" he asked. "O Muslims everywhere, I call on you to fight and become martyrs in the war against the Zionists and the crusaders," he said in the eight-minute tape, entitled The Zionist-Crusader War on Lebanon and the Palestinians, parts of which were broadcast by al-Jazeera television yesterday. ==== Zawahiri also criticised "impotent, treacherous" Arab governments for their feeble response to the Israeli attacks. "My fellow Muslims, it is obvious that Arab and Islamic governments are not only impotent but also complicit ... and you are alone on the battlefield. Rely on Allah and fight your enemies ... make yourselves martyrs." ... ==== "There are 10,000 prisoners of war in Israel's jails that nobody bothers about, but when it came to three Israeli soldiers, the whole world was turned upside down," Zawahiri said in the message. ...

"What we're seeing here, in a sense, is the growing -- the birth pangs of a new Middle East ..." ==== Robert: I only hope that if there *is* a hell, it holds a special place of uniquely excruciating torment for such brazenly amoral hypocrites. I see no "birth pangs", so whimsically conjured up by the disingenuous Ms. Rice, only abundant DEATH pangs -- principally those of innocent Lebanese civilians being butchered by order of of the Israeli government (as shamefully facilitated by the tacit approval and outright obstructionism of our own government). ==== Following the "script"? Perhaps. (And it is a superbly *elegant* piece of writing you've produced here.) But I think it's as likely those overlapping phrases are just another example of inducing the Xian Right "base" to "salivate" by purposefully inserting Biblical buzz words into speeches legitimately heralding only utterly selfish, morally bankrupt *imperial* prerogatives. I'm actually a bit surprised that Mistress Condo-sleaze-a hasn't yet blurted out, in *honest* aristocratic fashion, "Then let them eat bombs!" (The faux sympathy routine has worn exceedingly thin, and she doesn't play it at all convincingly to begin with.)

How can't we be a son of Allah when we see the truth of Israel?

I am not Muslim. I could if I would.

And RK... Sorry if I offended you, I know how to plant my dagger. But lately there has been so much bullshit in this country, that I cannot even relate with your blog. It may be a different way to differentiate myself from you guys, after all I am not even american, i am just an innocent bystander in this country, i was just here at the wrong time.

Anyone who thinks that reason is bigger than its own territorial frontiers (Blaise Pascal) without a legal body is a fucking son of a bitch. If you think I crossed the line, good for you, it was a necessity. Israel crossed the line too.
