And then.....

Just a post to say I really don't know what to say.

It seems as if we are going to see mushroom clouds in the Middle East quite soon.

Nemo pointed me to this piece on the who's, where's, and why's of the sudden U.S. hardon against Hezbollah and, of course, the connected dots lead right to Tehran.

Our military is currently occupied in Viet... Iraq, so I'm quite certain there are a couple of low-yield nuclear weapons being polished up right now so as to strike a decisive blow for.....whatever the fuck the "War on Terror" is supposed to accomplish.

That's what I really want to ask these folks leading the charge: And then what?

I want to ask Bush and the rest of the nutjobs, what the hell are you gonna do after you nuke Iran?

I want to ask the bloggers and pundits so frighteningly praying for war: What are you going to do when we finally kill millions of innocent people in the Middle East? What the fuck are you wanting to get out of this? What do you think this will bring?

What are the nutty fundamentalist Christians going to do when Israel finally reigns supreme and their promised messiah is a no-show? What a pathetic fucking joke their prophecies are.

Will there come a moment of clarity? Will the blood thirst be finally quenched when they stand in the ashes of entire civilizations?

Sure, corporations are becoming fabulously wealthy on the occupation of Iraq. Christians are getting their Armageddon. But what are all you blogging and blathering war-cheerleaders getting out of it? Validation? Proof that our way is the way and nothing else matters? Are your souls sold so cheaply? Is that the price of your humanity? Bragging rights?

Today is August 6th. Does that date have any meaning for you folks spoiling for an American/Israeli vs Iran showdown?

Does history even matter to you people?

These are the lives of millions of your fellow human beings you're playing with.

Does that not matter at all anymore? Did it ever?

Ask yourself that question: And then?

Who attacked who and who started what is not going to matter one damn bit when that first nuke flies.

And then....

Robert: Those "desktop warriors" and their enthusiastic comrades *will* likely gloat over their perceived "master race" supremacy, and would probably adamantly justify any such utterly barbaric act as "appropriately pre-emptive". After all, haven't they LONG been *telling* themselves, in unshakably paranoid fashion, how "everyone is out to get us"? ==== But as for us, we have other choices to make. And should this scenario unfold as you suggest, I think Stan Goff (and a certain inspired gentleman from the blog Green September) have floated what is essentially the right idea. ==== There must be a "line drawn" somewhere, as Goff admirably expresses it. And certainly, in consequence of any such capriciously murderous decision as that of wielding nuclear weapons as a mere political "expediency", any semblance of compliance with this amoral government should be totally suspended: Pledge Drive Notion, by Stam Goff [Feral Scholar] ==== ... If the United States government uses a nuclear weapon against anyone, anywhere, for any reason, we the undersigned herein pledge that within 24 hours we will: ==== Form human roadblocks with our own bodies to close all major thoroughfares into all state capitals, into Washington DC, and into Alexandria VA, in order to shut the government down. If this action is inadequate, we pledge to work with others to escalate our tactics until the executive branch of the United States Government resigns en masse or until the entire society as it is currently constituted collapses into a state of absolute ungovernability. No signatory to this pledge is expected or encouraged to emply personal violence against any other human being; but all other methods will be open for consideration in order to meet our goal. With this pledge, we the undersigned are saying, before it happens, that we will not submit to governance nor subject future generations to the governance of any body that for any reason displays this level of utter immorality. ... ==== [Goff concludes by stating that the above is "just a draft". But it's a fine start, as I've seen others make in the past. Furthermore, it puts the horse squarely before the cart by being irrevocably goal-oriented, once implemented. If the people of this world, are to have any hope of a decent future, the task falls to us to make such an adamantly defiant stand.]

Robert: Funny you just mentioned "Viet-raq". It often seems to me from these uncanny coincidences that, if God is on anyone's "side", it's clearly our own (the American Resistance Movement). ==== What is past is prologue: Vietnam: The War Crimes Files [The Los Angeles Times] ==== ... The files are part of a once-secret archive, assembled by a Pentagon task force in the early 1970s, that shows that confirmed atrocities by U.S. forces in Vietnam were more extensive than was previously known. ==== The documents detail 320 alleged incidents that were substantiated by Army investigators - not including the most notorious U.S. atrocity, the 1968 My Lai massacre. ==== Though not a complete accounting of Vietnam war crimes, the archive is the largest such collection to surface to date. About 9,000 pages, it includes investigative files, sworn statements by witnesses and status reports for top military brass. ==== The records describe recurrent attacks on ordinary Vietnamese - families in their homes, farmers in rice paddies, teenagers out fishing. Hundreds of soldiers, in interviews with investigators and letters to commanders, described a violent minority who murdered, raped and tortured with impunity. ==== Abuses were not confined to a few rogue units, a Times review of the files found. They were uncovered in every Army division that operated in Vietnam. ==== Retired Brig. Gen. John H. Johns, a Vietnam veteran who served on the task force, says he once supported keeping the records secret but now believes they deserve wide attention in light of alleged attacks on civilians and abuse of prisoners in Iraq. ==== "We can't change current practices unless we acknowledge the past," says Johns, 78. ... ==== [There's *much* more in the full article, including a fairly exhaustive review.]

Pakistan's ISI intelligence services are as dirty as they come, and works closely with crooked CIA/MI6/mossad drug smugglers in Asia. This guy is privy to a lot of black intelligence operations, and his warnings should not be taken lightly.

The next 9/11 will come before America's attack on Syria and Iran in October, just in time to provide cover for peak oil and the coming global financial collapse.

Meanwhile, the U.S. shadow government ready and in place for next 9/11.

And Bush is expanding martial law powers in advance of coming 9/11.

Destruction, Death, and Drastic Measures, by Dahr Jamail [Tom Dispatch] ==== "I care about my people, my country, and defending them from the Zionist aggression," said a Hezbollah fighter after I'd asked him why he joined the group. I found myself in downtown Beirut sitting in the backseat of his car in the liquid heat of a Lebanese summer. Sweat rolled down my nose and dripped on my notepad as I jotted furiously. ==== "My home in Dahaya is now pulverized," he said while the concussions of Israeli bombs landing in his nearby neighborhood echoed across the buildings around us, "Everything in my life is destroyed now, so I will fight them. I am a Shaheed [martyr]." ==== He asked to remain anonymous, and that I refer to him only as Ahmed. ==== The late afternoon sun was behind him as he told me just how hard his life had been. When he was eleven years old, he and his youngest brother had been taken from their home by Israeli soldiers and put in prison for two years. I asked him what happened to him there, but that was a subject he wouldn't discuss. One of his brothers was later killed by Israeli soldiers. After his release from an Israeli prison Ahmed was spending his teenage years in southern Lebanon when he was caught in crossfire between Hezbollah fighters and Israeli soldiers near his home. He was shot three times. Many years before, his father had been killed by an Israeli air strike on a refugee camp in south Beirut. ==== "What are we left with?" he asked, while the angle of the sun through the windshield highlighted tears welling in his eyes, "I know I will die fighting them, then I will go to my God. But I will go to my God fighting like a lion. I will not be slaughtered like a lamb." ...

Again: If the article below indicates what you're referring to, *your* post was actually the first I heard of it. And for me, it's far too early to assess "legitimacy". On the one hand, we know that both the US and UK governments have well-established track records for lying through their teeth when "circumstances warrant" (or, in the case of the US, just "out of habit"). On the other hand, I'd be extremely surprised to hear that NO ONE was plotting some kind of retribution against the US for all the brutal devastation the Bush Reich has facilitated (or deliberately perpetrated) of late. ==== But as to whether *this* is such a retaliatory strike, who knows? It could indeed be total BUllSHit, like so many other phony "terror alerts", or even a "false flag" operation meant to encourage further Western militarism. ==== So, to answer your question directly, "ANY of the above." ;-) (These days, I truly "can't tell the players without a score card"): 'Mass murder terror plot' uncovered

I'm still shocked over news Pat Robertson prayed for victory in Lebanon with Olmert and is urging all fundamentalist Christians to pray for the same thing.

B: Good show! I find your comments on this spectacle eminenly sensible -- downright upright! And I can't believe that MORON Bush actually flung out the phrase "Islamic fascists" in supposed "description" of this all-too *murky* scenario. (Obviously, he's now deliberately shaping his addled rhetoric to stimulate the lower brain cells of his most *Neanderthal* Brownshirt supporters!) Agreed, the tight-lipped theatricality (and now, shifting storyline -- see the Guardian's latest) is fraught with seemingly contrived drama. Excellent piece!! ==== As for "Patsy" Robertson, there are really no words to describe such a twisted, evil, "anti-Christ" sort of demagogue. May lightening strike him dead! (Perhaps then his clueless flock *might* just begin to wonder about the "divine righteousness" of his vicious screed.) Fellow Heathens, will you join with me in [praying, chanting, cursing, spell-casting, Om'ing] for this desired result? ;-)

Here goes another one of those stories that has been on my mind lately. There are many things in life that have strange loopy connections to them whether directly ar analogously. The 'War on Terror' is one of them. I find the Global War on Terror to be just another example of an arms race out of control, both an ideological one and a literal one.

I say this because we find the alleged terrorist networks consistently reinventing new ways to avoid detection and new methods of bomb building; and the counter-terrorist forces inventing newer, more draconian methods of averting plots and infringing upon civil liberties with impunity. So it exhibits all the classic signs of the same arms race mentality of the cold war.

If we approach this quandary from this perspective the solution to the terror problem becomes fairly obvious. What is needed is de-escalation. Arms races can only be approached with an understanding of classic game theory. Both parties have a choice to cooperate or defect. Sadly, the knee-jerk response to the dilemma is mutual defection resulting in a lose-lose escalation of hostilities. In this scenario our prisoner's dilemma becomes a zero-sum game where the 'winner' becomes the party with enough resources to outlast his opponent. If this sounds familiar we are both probably thinking back to the fall of the Soviet Union that 'ended' the cold war. While this strategy appears to have paid dividends to the United States during this conflict on the surface, I would assert that if that assumption holds true; there is still no guarantee of a favorable outcome in this conflict. Our friends on the right would call this position weepy and cowardly. I would counter that it is indeed neither.

Current estimates put Islam as the world's second largest religion. It is estimated that there are between 900 million and 1.5 billion adherents to the Islamic faith and only 18% live in the Arab world. For our leaders to start referring to Muslims as "Islamic Fascists" is a dangerous sort of rhetoric. I would also factor in the $400+ Billion that has already been spent fighting our proxy war in Iraq which has only fueled the religious fervor on both sides of the conflict. Iraq has become destabilized due to our intervention and is plunging into civil war with or without our presence. It is my wholehearted belief that we simply do not have the financial resources nor the interest to escalate this conflict indefinately and I ask is this what we all want?

While our media never follows the story this far Osama bin Laden has repeatedly stated that his biggest problem with the United States is our continued presence and intervention into Middle-Eastern affairs in general and Saudi Arabia in specific. We have long known that Muslims abhor infidels (us) having a military presence on holy soil. While I make no apology for this rhetoric and neither condone nor impugn it, I am stating a well worn fact. We are not welcome in Middle-Eastern affairs. Let us not lie to ourselves in public or private. We are there for the oil. That is all. We are not there to spread democracy or feed the poor or keep the peace, we are there for their oil. Once that is gone, we will no longer care what happens to 'those people'. If we can admit this we are already part way towards the solution.

So what we need is de-escalation of hostilities and an alternate fuel for our industries. While the conflicts that we are involved in have complex motivations and the sources of conflict are not always as cut and dry as we Americans always wish them to be. The solution IS that easy. We admit we were wrong, we offer financial reparations for our indiscretions and we walk away.

I keep hearing the noise-makers on the right arguing that the 'Islamofascists' want a global caliphate and they will stop at nothing short of world domination. I ask you, does any of this rhetoric sound familiar? Where have we heard this before? In conjunction with the former Soviet Union? With Castro? with the Great Red Communist Conspiracy? While the sheer numbers of Muslims in the world are a formidable quantity, what we find is a culture steeped in tribal mentality. Perhaps no more that the Christian Fudamentalists we find in our own culture, but very tribal and us-vs-them nonetheless. I would assert that there is simply no faction that can muster the resources necessary for such a global venture. The vast amount of resources needed for world domination is far greater than even the great United States could ever muster.

But I will offer this, another cui bono question. If the Global War on Terror is such a lose-lose proposition fraught with the markings of certain failure then why pursue it? War is still a profitable business if your business is war. The right question is who benefits.

We must struggle to understand the mind of the terrorist and we should never take lightly the hatred these angry young men have, even for those of ust trying to understand their plight. An interesting subject for honest debate is whether or not terrorism is ever justifiable and why or why not. I find our leaders lacking in an understanding of the situations they are creating in Middle-Eastern affairs. I am sure they honestly believe they have our best interests in mind and that securing oil for our continued addiction led them to make tough decisions that we common men and women cannot fully appreciate. But they fail to appreciate the gravity of their indiscretions and the ramifications that will last generations into the future. They fail to understand that we are not talking about animals that are cold, unfeeling, ignoble and incapable of reason. We are talking about our fellow human beings and all ideological differences aside they are from the same stock as us.
